Chernysh, Pavel

Pavel Chernysh (1931-2003) was President of the Primorsk Shipping Company from 1978 to 1991.

He was born on 11 August 1931 in Sita, Lazo District, Khabarovsk Region. In 1956, he graduated from the Vladivostok Higher Maritime School as a navigation engineer. In 1964, he graduated from the Faculty of Water Transport Operation at Nevelskoy Maritime State University.

In 1956, Chernysh was sent to work for the Vladivostok Maritime School as Deputy Chief of Education and Production. In 1962, Pavel Chernysh was assigned to new duties in the Far Eastern Shipping Company (FESCO) to work as First Officer. In December 1962, he was transferred to the FESCO Administration to the position of Group Control Engineer with the Dry-Cargo Fleet Transportation and Movement Service. In March 1971, by Order of the Ministry of Maritime Fleet, he was appointed Chief of the International Lines Administration and Deputy President of FESCO. From February 1972 to September 1978, he worked as Secretary of the Party Committee for FESCO. On 19 September 1978, he was appointed President of the Far Eastern Shipping Company. Chernysh retired in 1992 from his position as Director General of navigation company Daleco Co. Ltd.

He was awarded the Order of Lenin, the Order of the Red Banner of Labour and the Order of the Badge of Honour.

An Aframax shuttle tanker was named after Pavel Chernysh. The vessel transports crude oil for the Sakhalin-1 project in the Sea of Okhotsk.
