On 27 March the Collegium of the Russian Federal Agency for Maritime and River Transport (Rosmorrechflot) and the Public Council of the Agency held an extended meeting during which the results of industry work during 2017 and plans for 2018 were summed up. Sovcomflot was represented by Igor Tonkovidov, Executive Vice President and Chief Technical Officer of the company, at the meeting.

During the Colleguim meeting, an award ceremony took place for the winners of the annual Industry Leadership Awards. Based on the results of 2017, PAO Sovcomflot was declared the winner of the "Shipping company engaged in marine cargo tanker transportation" award by an expert commission of Rosmorrechflot. Sovcomflot also received an award for the successful commissioning of Christophe de Margerie in 2017, the world’s first icebreaking LNG carrier that serves the Yamal LNG project. In August 2017, she became the first merchant vessel to travel the full length of the Northern Sea Route (NSR) safely, without any icebreaker escort. In December 2017, the vessel loaded the first cargo of Yamal liquefied natural gas (LNG), marking an excellent start to the year-round shipping of energy from Yamal.

The LNG carrier Christophe de Margerie tanker has already been highly commended by global experts from the international oil and gas market. In December 2017, the vessel was named Engineering Project of the Year at the 2017 S&P Global Platts Global Energy Awards.
